Fibroids

In a recent interview with the Montgomery Sentinel, Dr. Natalya Danilyants, MD and 2 former patients discuss the innovative surgical techniques that helped them recover from complex GYN conditions.

LAAM is a technique used to remove fibroids while sparing the uterus. This is done for women who wish to retain fertility. DualPortGYN is used to treat all GYN conditions and can be used to perform hysterectomies, resection of endometriosis, resection of pelvic adhesions and removal of ovarian cysts.

These innovative surgical techniques require only 2 small incisions, and women recover faster with less pain.

A Montgomery County-based organization has developed two new procedures to help with infertility and other gynecological conditions.

The Center for Innovative GYN Care has created two innovative minimally invasive surgeries, Laparoscopic Assisted Abdominal Myomectomy-Bilateral Uterine Artery Ligation and DualPortGYN, to help with conditions including uterine fibroids, endometriosis and ovarian cysts.

Surgical specialists Dr. Paul MacKoul and Dr. Natalya Danilyants perform both procedures.

Danilyants said both procedures include faster recovery times, shorter surgery times, smaller incisions, and fewer complications than the other methods.

She also said the two procedures address some of these limitations presented by robotic and conventional surgery as well as other procedures, such as the ability to get fibroids deep within the uterus that the other methods are unable to get.

According to Danilyants, LAAM-BUAL is a procedure that is used to remove fibroids, which are tumors that impact fertility, from the uterus.

“We’ve had actually quite a few patients that had large fibroids within the uterus and been trying to conceive for many years, sometimes even using fertility treatments and who were able to conceive once the fibroids were removed, “ said Danilyants.
